As gas prices rise so are credit card fees which are usually paid by the gas stations.

Barack Obama on Fatherhood

On Father’s day, Democratic Presidential candidate Sen. Barack Obama spoke to the congregation of the Apostolic Church of God in his hometown of Chicago. Obama addressed the issue of black fathers who are “missing from too many lives and too many homes.” He reminds the congregation that although this is not just a black problem it is more prevalent in the black community. Barack’s father left when he was 2 and statistics show that children born into a single parent household have pretty much doubled since the time Barack was a child.

13 YEAR OLD AUTISTIC BOY – BANNED

A Minnesota Catholic Church has banned a 13 year old autistic boy from attending Sunday morning Mass. Leaders of The Church of St. Joseph, feel that Adam Race’s unpredictable behavior threatens the safety of others attending Mass. Leaders say that he has hit a child, nearly knocked over an elderly parishioner and urinated in the church. So, they have obtained a restraining order to keep him away from the church. Adam’s mom says this is wrong and the claims are exaggerated.

How Safe are Our Schools?

Another school shooting, this time in Illinois. How safe are our schools? Here is a list of school shootings worldwide since 1996. It is very scary!!!

What is being done to make our schools safer? Are more teachers the answer or are more police and security needed in our schools? What about metal detectors in every school? Maybe it's time for better gun control laws?

I don't have the answer, but I sure would like to hear what you think about this problem. I have a daughter and a grandaughter in college, a grandson in high school and a grandson in elementary school. I worry everyday about their safety while they are in school.

What Does It Mean To Be A Christian?

My logic and faith in the wisdom and justice of the Divine is that all religions have equal access to the one and only Divine Being.

I believe that after leaving the physical body the virtuous Christian and the virtuous Jew will keep company with the virtuous Moslem, Buddhist and Hindu as well as with the virtuous atheist.

What is of more importance, the name that we call God,

or the purity with which we seek?

Does God have a religion?

What religion does "He-She-It" belong to?

I believe that there is only one God and "He-SheˆIt" is Love and that Love is the essence of all religions.

However, being born a Christian,

I wonder the following:

Am I really a Christian?

What makes one a Christian?

What I claim or my heart‚s purity?

My birth or my conscience?

My Baptism or my behavior?

Then I thought, "A Christian is a person who seeks to put in practice Christ‚s teachings and example.

Subsequently I brought to mind his teachings and concluded that in order to be a Christian I would need to:

* Love others as I love myself.

* Love others as Christ loves me.

* Love even those who seek to do me harm.

* Not have any anxiety concerning tomorrow, having faith that if I work for the benefit of the whole, all my needs will be cared for as are those of the birds and lilies of the field.

* Remember that God exists in each being, in the poor, ill, imprisoned, orphans, refugees and all others and serve them in anyway that I can.

* Share my resources and belongings with those in need thus freeing up my spiritual wealth.

* Realize that the satisfaction and abundance I am seeking are within me.

* Never do to others what I would not like them to do to me.

* Abandon my personal life and unite with my fellow beings just as the first Christians in communal life.

* Never criticize or condemn others but rather seek to understand and overcome my own weaknesses.

* Have trust that God loves me unconditionally and that if I ask, I will be given what I need unless it is my greater benefit not to have what I am asking for.

* Forgive others regardless of their actions and repetitive mistakes.

* Understand and employ the power of fasting and prayer.

* Remember that our destiny is to live in harmony and unity with our fellow beings.

* Realize that my purpose is to use my talents, intelligence, abilities and virtues to create a more harmonious world.

* Remember that I could leave my body at any time and thus live in such a way so that I am without regrets or pending matters whenever I leave.

* Remember that I am the Temple of God and that the Divine lives in me.

* Realize that the Kingdom of God is within me and nowhere else.

* Realize that by following Christ‚s guidelines I will discover the Truth that will set me free from me ignorance.

* Gradually absorb the truth that we are all divine and that our destiny is Theosis or to become like God through the perfection of our innate virtues.

* Believe that Christ is an incarnation of the Divine.

* Believe in his resurrection from death.

* Love God with all my power, mind, heart and soul.

* Live with love.

I suspect you could add many more qualities of a Christian.

Then I thought, "so, am I a Christian or not?"

An answer came from within.

"It is my goal and I am in the process."

Being a Christian, Moslem, Jew, Buddhist, Hindu or even a conscious Atheist is an

ongoing process of seeking to experience our true spiritual self and manifesting it through love, truth, peace, service, right action and selflessness.

Prayer in School

The True Meaning of Christmas

Life today has become more hectic than ever before! Families have little time to spend with each other and often do not even sit down to eat dinner together due to the hustle and bustle of everday life! This is never more apparent than during the Christmas Season.

It seems that Christmas has been commercialized and it's all about decorating, shopping and the presents. Let's take a few moments to reflect upon the true meaning of Christmas. Sit down with your family and as you decorate remember this.

*The fir tree that we use as a Christmas tree is pure green and keeps it's color all year long; depicting the everlasting hope of mankind.

*The needles point upward towards heaven making it a symbol of man's thoughts turning towards heaven.

*The star we use to decorate the top of the Christmas tree was the heavenly sign of promises long ago. God promised a saviour for the world and the star was the sign of the fullfillment of His promise.

*The candles we burn at Christmas are reminders that Christ is the light of the world and He displaced the darkness.

*The wreath we hang on our doors is round and symbolizes love. Real love never ceases and is one continuous round of affection.

*Santa Claus reminds of generousity and goodwill that we all feel during the Christmas Season.

*The candy cane is a symbol of the sheperds' crook used to bring stray sheep back to the flock. This is a reminder that we are our brother's
keeper.

*The holly leaf represents immortality; it reminds us of the crown of thorns worn by our Saviour and the red berries remind us of the blood shed by Him for us.

*As you look at the gifts under the tree, remember that the greatest gift of all was God's gift to us.

John 3:16 "For God so loved the world he gave us His one and only Son."

Please take a moment to slow down during this hectic holiday season and reflect upon the true meaning of Christmas. Enjoy your time with friends and family and remember to keep Christ in Christmas.

Feeding on God's Word

It's not very often that I miss a meal. I'm sure most of you are the same way. We always seem to make time to sit down and eat. Can we honestly say the same when it comes to feeding on God's Word? Do we make time each day to sit down and read the Bible so we can nourish our soul? It takes much more discipline to schedule time for Bible reading than it does to schedule a meal. In fact, most of us don't have to schedule meals...it has just become a habit to sit down three times a day to feed our body. Let's also try to make a habit of reading God's Word.

When He was tempted by the devil in Matthew 4:4, Jesus answered, "It is written: Man does not live on bread alone, but on every word that comes from the mouth of God."

How often do you read God's Word?

Once a day
Several times a day
Once a week
Once a month

I try to read my Bible daily, but it doesn't always happen. However, I have found that since I am on the computer 8 hours a day at work and several hours a day at home, it is pretty easy to go on line to Bible Gateway and get my daily dose of God's Word.

A New You in the New Year in 5 Easy Steps

Every year about this time people make ridiculous New Year's resolutions that they never end up sticking to. Don't be one of those people. Here are some resolutions that are easy to obtain and will make you feel good about yourself!

1. Every day do something just for you
We all get busy doing whatever it is that we do on a daily basis and more often than not we have very little time for ourselves. So this year make sure that you set aside a little bit of time each and every day, just for you! It can be something as simple as taking a walk, working in your garden, reading a book, writing in your journal, or drinking a cup of your favorite tea. Just make sure it is something out of your ordinary routine…something that you do just for you to make yourself feel good!

2. Learn something new each month
Change is a good thing! It is too easy to fall into the same old boring routine and before you know it you find yourself in a big rut! Set a goal to learn something new each month this year. It could be a foreign language, or maybe taking a class in pottery or a dance lesson, maybe learning to play the guitar. By doing new things you will feel much better about yourself.

3. Pat yourself on the back
You deserve it…if no else tells you what a great job you have done; then give yourself a big pat on the back! Your accomplishments are important so make sure you recognize them and treat yourself to something nice when you reach a goal or achieve something you have been trying to do for a long time.

4. Stay healthy in the New Year
Fitness is important, and it will make you feel better if you are healthy. Make a little time each week to exercise and try to eat healthier in the New Year. There are thousands of different diets out there and they all suck! If you are anything like me it's very difficult to stick to a regimented diet and exercise program; however, I have found that just by recognizing that I need to eat healthier and exercise regularly, it helps.

Here are a few tips:
•Be aware of what you eat and how much you eat
•Avoid the fast food joints
•Cut out the late night snacks
•Park far away from the store not real close…the walk will do you good
•If you are watching TV, do a few sit-ups or crunches instead of just sitting there eating popcorn

5. Set goals that are obtainable
Goal setting is important, but make sure you set goals that are obtainable. Instead of saying that you are going to lose twenty pounds this year; how about just saying that you will work on eating healthier and exercising more so you can lose some weight. Keep track of your progress and reward yourself for sticking to your exercise schedule and eating plan. Before you know you will have lost a few pounds! It's much easier and a whole lot less frustrating to set goals that you can actually reach!

Pickin' for The Lord

I have been playing the guitar since I was thirteen (that would be about forty-five years). However, I have not played it very often in the last five or ten years since I spend most of my time on the computer!

In an effort to pry me away from the computer my wife has been bugging me to join the praise band at church and start playing the guitar again. I kept ignoring her until a couple of months ago, when one Sunday in church two guys with guitars and a harmonica played some special music during service. It was wonderful and made me want to pick up my guitar again. Then after church I told one of the guys what a great job he did and how much I enjoyed the music. He replied, "your wife tells me that you play the guitar too, you ought to come join us." I made the excuse that I was way too busy and left it at that.

However, the following Wednesday night, I had the sudden urge to pick up my guitar and go up to the church and join them for practice. They were surprised to see me but welcomed me with open arms. Now the praise band had three guitars!

Needless to say, my fingers still worked just fine and I had a GREAT time playing the guitar again. The next day I went out and bought a brand new set of strings for my guitar and I was once again pickin' like an old pro!

I don't know if it was my wife's nagging, the special invitation from my fellow church member or a little nudge from God that brought me to the church with my guitar that night. But I'm glad that I joined the praise band, and started pickin' for The Lord.

Now our little praise band plays once a month at our early morning Sunday Worship Service and every week at a new Word of Grace Service that we have started at our church on Monday nights. Occasionally we will play at our regular 11:00 am Sunday Service and we have played a few times at a local nursing home for their Sunday night Worship Service.

I am thankful that God gave me some musical talent and I am proud to be pickin' for The Lord!

The Radio One family extends our heartfelt condolences to the family, friends and fans of Sean Taylor.

Miami native Sean Taylor was pronounced dead early Tuesday Morning, at Jackson Memorial Hospital in Miami. Sean Taylor was a graduate of University of Miami where he was a great safety and later was drafted to the Washington Redskins. Sean Taylor was shot at his Palmetto Bay home early Monday morning in the upper part of his leg where he suffered massive blood loss from a severed femoral artery. After surgery Sean Taylor was said to be responsive to doctors which gave his family a little hope. But he passed away early in that morning.Sean was home resting from a knee injury he suffered in one of the Redskins football games.

Police are investigating the home invasion and murder of Sean Taylor. Sean Taylor is survived by his high school sweetheart Jackie Garcia, eight-teen month old daughter named Jackie, and his family. Please leave any thoughts and comments for his family and friends.

Pray first, aim high and stay focused

There once was a man who had nothing for his family to eat. He had an old rifle and three bullets. So, he decided that he would go out hunting and kill some wild game for dinner. As he went down the road, he saw a rabbit. He shot at the rabbit and missed it. The rabbit ran away.

Then he saw a squirrel and fired a shot at the squirrel and missed it. The squirrel disappeared into a hole in a cottonwood tree. As he went further, he saw a large wild "Tom" turkey in the tree, but he had only one bullet remaining. A voice spoke to him and said, "Pray first, aim high and stay focused." However, at the same time, he saw a deer which was a better kill. He brought the gun down and aimed at the deer. But, then he saw a rattlesnake between his legs about to bite him, so he naturally brought the gun down further to shoot the rattlesnake.

Still, the voice said again to him, "I said 'Pray, Aim high and Stay focused." So, the man decided to listen to God's voice. He prayed, then aimed the gun high up in the tree and shot the wild turkey. The bullet bounced off the turkey and killed the deer. The handle fell off the gun and hit the snake in the head and killed it. And, when the gun had gone off, it knocked him into a pond.

When he stood up to look around, he had fish in all his pockets, a dead deer and a turkey to eat for his family. The snake (Satan) was dead simply because the man listened to God.

Moral of the story:

Pray first before you do anything, Aim and shoot high in your goals, and stay focused on God. Never let others discourage you concerning your past. The past is exactly that. "the past." Live every day one day at a time and remember that only God knows our future and that He will not put you through any more than you can bear. Do not look to man for your blessings, but look to the doors that only He has prepared in advance for you in your favor.Wait, be still and patient: keep God first and everything else will follow.

Bible Stops Bullet in Iraq

Here's an example of why they call the Bible The Good Book!

An American soldier serving in Iraq was shot in the chest by a high-powered rifle and lived to tell about it. 22-year-old Army Private First Class Brendan Schweigart had his Bible tucked into a pocket beneath his bullet proof vest when he was shot by a sniper a couple of weeks ago while on a mission in Iraq. Today he is out of the hospital and on light duty. The bullet missed his vital organs, came out of his chest and lodged into the Bible.

The soldier says if his Bible had not been there, the bullet probably would have ricocheted off the armored vest and went back into his chest again causing even more damage.Schweigart credits his Bible with saving his life! He also says that the prayers of the folks back in the United States helped him to recover quickly. Schweigart has received the Purple Heart.
